Intellectual Property

Overview

Papatriantafyllou & Thanasenari advises and represents Greek and international businesses and private clients in intellectual property matters in Greece. Based in Athens, we assist with the protection, commercial use and enforcement of copyright, trade marks, patents and other intellectual property rights.

Copyright

We advise authors, publishers, businesses and other rights holders on the protection and commercial use of copyright, including rights in literary and artistic works, digital content and software.

Our work includes licensing and assignment agreements, publishing arrangements and advice on unauthorised copying, publication and distribution. We assess ownership and the scope of permitted use, including where rights are exercised across borders.

Trade Marks

We advise on the registration, protection and commercial use of trade marks in Greece and the EU, and on strategies for protection in other markets. Our work includes trade mark searches and applications, licensing agreements and disputes over registration or use.

We also advise on domain name registration and disputes, and on conflicts involving brand names and logos.

IP Litigation

Our litigation practice covers copyright, trade mark and patent disputes, as well as claims of unfair competition. We act for rights holders seeking to enforce their rights and for businesses and private clients defending infringement claims.

We handle pre-action correspondence, settlement negotiations, applications for interim measures and claims for damages. We represent clients before the Greek courts, including appeals and proceedings before the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos), with a strategy based on the evidence, the scope of the rights in issue and the client’s objectives.
