White-Collar Crime & Investigations
Overview
Papatriantafyllou & Thanasenari advises and represents businesses and private clients in white-collar crime matters. Based in Athens, we act in criminal proceedings throughout Greece and assist businesses in investigating suspected misconduct and managing criminal and regulatory risks.
We approach each matter with close attention to the evidence, our clients’ rights and the wider implications for their business, assets and reputation. Our experience in commercial and corporate disputes informs our approach where criminal allegations arise alongside civil claims or business conflicts.
Criminal Defence & Representation
We defend business owners, directors, executives and other private clients at every stage of criminal proceedings, from preliminary investigations through trial and appeal, including proceedings before the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos).
Our work covers fraud, embezzlement, criminal breach of trust, tax offences, money laundering, bribery and corruption, and competition-related offences. We build each defence on a close examination of the facts, the financial records and the applicable law, testing the evidence behind every allegation.
We also act for businesses and private clients affected by financial crime, preparing criminal complaints and representing their interests in criminal proceedings. Where related civil claims arise, we coordinate the criminal and civil strategy so that each set of proceedings supports the other.
Internal Investigations
We conduct internal investigations into suspected financial misconduct and potential criminal or regulatory breaches within businesses. Our work focuses on establishing the facts, reviewing relevant documents and assessing the legal implications for the business and those involved.
Drawing on our litigation experience, we advise on the preservation of evidence, appropriate remedial measures and the available legal options. Where the findings call for legal action, we prepare the necessary criminal complaints and represent clients before the competent authorities and courts.
Throughout an investigation, we place particular emphasis on discretion, the rights of those involved and the continuity of business operations.
